SCHEDULE
  • Monday -Friday, Onsite, 40 hours per week
  • 7 AM – 3:30 PM EST
CONTRACT TERM
1 year with high likelihood of extension or conversion to full time employee.
 
POSITION OVERVIEW – Forklift Operator/Material Handler 
The Material Handler transports and manages materials within facilities to support production and operations. Responsibilities: Load, unload, and move materials to designated locations. Maintain accurate records of material movements and inventory. Inspect materials for quality and report discrepancies. Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment. Follow safety protocols and guidelines during operations. 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment. Inputs all shipment information into ERP computer system.
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
  • Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rates. Makes carrier arrangements when necessary.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment.
  • Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
  • Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers and protective padding.
  • Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape, using strapping machine.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items/goods, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Participates in physical inventories and inventory reconciliation exercises to meet overall inventory accuracy goals
  • Routes items to various internal departments and kanban areas for manufacturing projects.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • May operate forklift truck or use hand-truck to move, convey or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
  • Other duties may be assigned by management to meet business needs.
  • Pull and kit parts for the assembly team to assemble projects/orders.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Experience in material handling or logistics roles preferred. 
  • Certification in operating material handling equipment is a plus. 
  • Strong attention to detail and physical stamina.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least 6 months or more of Forklift experience.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull at least 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work occasional weekend shifts.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, and safety shoes.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screen.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
  • Prior production and inventory control experience helpful
  • Forklift certification
  • Crane certification
  • Must be familiar with ERP systems. SAP knowledge a plus.
  • Calculate surface, volumes, weights and dimensions of packaged equipment or components.
  • Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures and practices.
  • Must be able to make decision with regards to completion of tasks and job methods and follow through with results of outcome.
  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with internal customers. Internal customers may include production, engineers, and management personnel.
